Miss Shelly Mahaffey


Shelly Mahaffey has been dancing since the age of 11 and has studied many genres of dance including: jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, contemporary, lyrical, tap and the dance team styles of pom and kick. She is the current director of the dance team at Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, FL, a head instructor for Universal Dance Association and the Quality Control Leader for judging panels for the USASF Dance Worlds.


Shelly moved to Lake Mary at a young age where she received her dance training at Lake Mary Dance Academy and was also a member of the Lake Mary Marionettes. She attended college at Valencia Community College and the University of Central Florida where she majored in Liberal Studies with a focus in Education and Social Sciences and a minor in Dance and History. She was a member and captain of the University of Central Florida Knightmoves Dance Team. She is a former Assistant Coach for the UDA National High Kick Champion Lake Mary Marionettes (2002) and a former coach for the nationally ranked UCF Knightmoves Dance Team (5th place, 2003). She has been involved with several Orlando area performance groups including Rhythm by Nature and HYPE (Hot Young People Entertainment). In addition, Shelly has traveled to take classes in Los Angeles and New York City to learn from the top choreographers and dancers in the industry.


Shelly has performed at Hard Rock Live, House of Blues, Disney’s Magic Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the Orlando Magic Halftime Show. In addition she has performed for nationally televised events: Jerry Lewis’ MDA Telethon, University Dance Association’s Opening Number aired on ESPN/ESPN 2 and a Varsity Spirit Contest commercial in conjunction with Disney and ESPN. Shelly is the rehearsal coordinator for the pregame performance of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl held at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, FL. She has traveled to London, Rome, Paris and Bogota in order to teach and/or judge dance internationally. She is a dance judge for numerous dance competitions and is a choreographer and competition consultant for high school and college dance teams across the country.
